This is very difficult to write obituaries about such people like Giya Kancheli.
It’s not just due to the tremendous sense of loss. To many of us this name was familiar from the early childhood years and thus we firmly believed that the legendary maestro will live forever.
That’s why the news of his death sounded so utterly unthinkable.
He was one of the giants, the brilliant composers such as Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone, Henry Mancini, Michel Legrand, whose music is already enjoyed by several generations.
Thus his death will inexorably bring this musical belle epoch closer to an end. This is very sad.
Farewell maestro! Your music will be immortal.
As well as your soul that you put in it.
